Innovations correlate with success
Founded in 1873 by August Bilstein, the company experienced a rapid development that also had a pioneering effect on overall vehicle industry development. Beginning with window fittings, Bilstein, back then named Aubi, initially supplied regional vehicle manufacturers and later on expanded abroad. The takeover by Hans Bilstein eventually caused the final breakthrough into the automotive supplier industry. With new ideas for nickel and chrome plating, Bilstein produced the first chrome-plated bumper for mass production in 1928. A short time later, the first working car jack followed. In 1957, Bilstein created a sensation in the automotive industry with the first monotube gas shock absorber. Their another highest achievement is the air suspension modules for the Mercedes S-Class. Retrospectively, Bilstein can certainly claim to have contributed to the history and development of numerous vehicle components.
The flagship of motorsport
The high-quality product range of Bilstein also received much attention in motorsport. For over 50 years, Bilstein has been supplying various racing teams at numerous racing events. All AMG-Mercedes in the DTM and more than half of all teams in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring compete with Bilstein parts. This is another proof of the high quality of products manufactured by Bilstein. Quality, resilience and durability are just some of the attributes that deserve mention. For private customers, this can only mean that products known to meet the high demands of motorsport are more than suitable for normal use.
Crucial cooperations
Through constant development and clever cooperation, Bilstein broadened its product range year after year. Today, the company manufactures shock absorbers, air springs, high-performance dampers, sport and coilover suspensions as well as steering systems. Belonging to the internationally active ThyssenKrupp Group, Bilstein has obtained investment resources and secured itself an additional advantage in development possibilities. Bilstein now employs over 2,000 people in Germany, Romania, the USA and China.
