Steering tie rod boots are elements designed to protect the steering rack from aggressive environments. They prevent dust, water, and aggressive chemicals from penetrating the unit. The components do not have a strictly limited service life. They are to be replaced as they wear, or with each scheduled replacement of tie rods.
What you should know about replacing steering tie rod boots
- Failure of the boots may only be detected during inspection. Other symptoms, such as extraneous sounds during driving, or deteriorated steering control of the vehicle indicate wear of the steering rack. In this case, replacing only the dust boots is not enough.
- Replacing these components without appropriate skills and equipment is difficult. The repair will require disassembly of the suspension, after which wheels will have to be aligned.
- Order the steering tie rod boots in a kit: it is better to replace them in pairs and together with the clamps. In addition, you may install new tie rod ends, if necessary. You can buy them inexpensively in our online shop.
- The service life of these components is largely determined by their quality. It is, therefore, better choose products from famous brands. Remember to make sure that boots do not touch other components, for example, wheel arch liners, when the steering wheel is turned.
