Oil filters clean motor oil from impurities. The average service life for these car parts is 10,000 to 15,000 km of mileage.
What you need to know about oil filter replacement
- Low pressure of the motor oil may be a sign of clogging of the filtering elements. This is indicated by an appropriate warning light on the dashboard.
- If you are going to pour new working fluid into the system, you should also buy an oil filter and a gasket to replace them together. In some cases, the seal may be sold separately at a low price. Use only the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer.
- If you replace the components yourself, wear protective gloves to prevent the skin from contacting harmful substances. The work usually requires a lifting device and a container for draining the old lubricant.
- As a rule, to gain access to this car part, some other components need to be dismantled. Use screwdrivers and pliers of a suitable shape. The drain plug is loosened with a ring spanner of a corresponding size, and the component is then removed with an oil filter spanner or a special puller.
- If the component is replaced in an assembly, a new one is simply screwed in instead of the old one. If only the replaceable filtering element is installed, you have to first dismantle the housing, extract the clogged cartridge, insert a new one, and assemble everything back.
- The use of high-quality fuel allows prolonging the service life of the working fluid and the filtering element. This will allow avoiding accelerated pollution of both the engine and the lubricant.
